Folk religion: traditional beliefs, rituals and practices. It includes ancestor worship, nature spirits and household gods.
동신 신앙
Village Guardian Dieties who protect villages
서낭당
Shrine for village guardian deities. Located at the entrance of the village in the form of a stone stack altar. Some with a tree as well.
장승
Wooden or stone figure carved in human form erected to protect village against disease, bad fortune and tiger attacks. It preserved piece and prosperity at the village and it also served as guideposts.
솟대
Sacred pole with a bird (ducks )carved on top and erected next to a 장승.
Serves as a means of praying abundant water

Earthenware jar: sacred entity called 성주 which lived in a jar (단지) filled with rice stalks or grains and kept on a shelf in the inner chamber of the house.
조왕신 - kitchen Gods
Fire god that governs the kitchen and oversees the fortunes of the family and the health and welfare of their descendants.
심신
Goddess of Childbearing: household god that oversees the birth and the growth of children. Worship rituals are held during seasonal holidays, during childbirth, child illness and troubles in the family.
Three female gods considered as one.
태몽
Child dream: Sign of conception, through interpretation of symbols they foretold the gender and the destiny of the child. The periods are variable: before and after one became aware of pregnancy, during pregnancy and after childbirth .

Birth Name: temporary nickname used until the child is born and given the official name (이름)
Used for: Protection, affection, secrecy

Fresh water that has symbolic significance as a sacred offering. Rituals that offers 정화수 take place in women’s spaces in the house

Ghosts: unascended souls wanders the netherworld as Yin (- energy)
독각귀/ 이매/ 허주
Goblins: figures that has extraordinary talents and changeable appearance. Considerate as separate form from Ghosts.

Taboo: prohibitions against doing something. Social phenomenon in every country
