What is Food safety?
It is the practice of handling, preparation and storage of food in ways that prevent foodborne illness.
What is a foodborne illness?
It is any illness that results from when you eat food that’s been contaminated by harmful microorganisms or toxins they produce.
What are some symptoms of foodborne illnesses?
-Vomiting
-diarrhoea
-fever
-chills
-abdominal pain
What are some factors causing food spoilage and foodborne diseases?
-The growth and activity of mico-organisms
-Chemical changes
-Physical contamination
-poor packaging
What are some ways to prevent food spoilage and foodborne diseases?
-No animals in the area
-Check the date stamps on fresh food
-keep food protected from flies, pests and rodents
-surrounding should be clean
