foolishness and folly Flashcards
(5 cards)
Orwell symbolzies the bourgoise as idiotic, vain and soley concerned about how the revolution will help/benefit them than what the revolution is about or how they can help it? (thats context) who represents the bourgoise in the novel?
Mollie = bourgoisie
'’Mollie refused to learn any but the six letters which spelt her own name’’ being literate would benefit bettering the revolution, however molly only learnt how own name as it will benefit her.
the sheep contstantly repeat ‘’ four legs good, two legs bad’’ how do their limited speech present foolishness toward the pigs hiearchy and the latest rebelion.?
'’When they had once got it by heart, the sheep developed a great liking for this maxim,……. as they lay in the field they would all start bleating.’’
shows how little the sheep have a mind of their own and the sheep as a collective are equally submitted to propaganda.
With the change of Napoleons titles how do the animals foolish attituded change?
“Under the guidance of our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days”
“Thanks to the leadership of Comrade Napoleon, how excellent this water tastes!”
The animals are so taken in by Napoleon’s self-congratulations that they actually praise him for how the water tastes and how many eggs they lay.
the animals assume that due to his new ‘higher’ titles he is responsible for everything good in the animal farm
In chapter 8 orwell pokes fun at the soviets construction what character says the qoute for this playful jab about the animal farms windmill.
Napoleon; “We have built the walls far too thick for that. They could not knock it down in a week. Courage, comrades!”
context; During the Russian Civil War, Soviet construction faced significant challenges, primarily due to the widespread disruption and devastation caused by the conflict
