Q

How is hope presented in this quote??
‘‘the existence of a mysterious country called Sugar candy Mountain, to which all animals went when they died’’

A

‘sugar candy mountain’ orwells use of the words ‘sugar’ and ‘candy’ puts a positive image in the readers and animals mind. It is also used to juxtapose the conditions on animal farm so the animals have a comforting thing to look forward to when they die.
Hope is created when they realise the poor conditions of the farm, the poor treatment lack of food, that they overall rather die and go to sugar candy moutain.

A

1) ‘almost overnight we could become rich and free’’

2) ‘is is because this land of ours is so poor that it cannot afford a decent life to those who dwell upon it?’’
—>the use of the rhetorical question allows the other animals to realise that MAN is the only reason, so once they remove jones there is a chance of happiness for them (gives them hope the idea of removing jones)

3)’Remove man from the scene and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever.’’
—>Old majors use of the word abolished leads to the animals to believe in the rebellion more and a hope that the abolishment of hunger and overwork comes true.
