Q

What does the amount of obliquity of the foot depend on?

A

The angle of the medial arch. If in an AP foot X-ray you angled 5 degrees then then the obliquity should be thirty degrees. Angled 10 then 45 degrees obliquity and 15 degree angulation of CR should be a 60 degree obliquity.

Q

What happens to the 1-2 MT bases in this X-ray?

A

The 2nd base superimposes the 1st MT base. This indicates the degree of obliquity of the foot.

Q

How do you know when you’ve obliqued the foot too much?

A

The MT bases overlap each other.
If you see the 4th MT tubercle in profile
The 5th proximal MT is superimposed over the 4th MT tubercle
