If gold is listed at the top and the ions on the left you can follow the tricks below to learn about sponteneity.
Connect the ion to the atom you are trying to compare, and if the line tilts down and to the right, it is spontaneous. If not, it is not spontaneous.
If you had Ni2+ and Zn they should react spontaneously to get Ni and Zn2+.
Another way to think about it is to use the arrow direction and it should be clockwise for spontaneous.
If the thing being reduced is above the thing being oxidized, then it is spontaneous.
This is only for charts organized like this one. Sometimes the list is reversed and if so you need to change these guidelines to reflect that.
