FR-S.1, S.2 Flashcards

Q

FR-S.1

When initially checking L s/g if < 15% what AFW flowrate do you maintain?

Why?

A

> 850 gpm

You are not just removing decay heat you are removing heat from power operation OR return to criticality

Q

FR-S.1

Why do you check Ppzr < 2335 psig?

A
  • to alert the operator if Prcs is high enough to prohibit isuficient charging injection and therefore BORATION

Q

FR-S.1

If the turbine does not trip on the second step of FR-S.1 what action do you take?

What do you do if that action does not work?

Why are you tripping the turbine in the first place during and ATWS?

A
  • ramp turbine 2400 MW/min
  • shut MSIVs and byps
  • normally tripped to prevent uncontrolled RCS c/d
  • (ATWS loss of FW event) the turbine is tripped to maintain inventory and limit the RCS pressure spike

Q

FR-S.1

you are in FR-S.1 with:

Pwr =6%

ECCS pmps injecting

Prcs = 1200 psig

Will you secure RCPs?

A

No

If power > 5%, you will not secure rcps. ECCS can only remove decay heat not operation heat

Also, securing RCPs w/in TCOA is per design base analysis. ATWS event is beyond design basis

Q

FR-S.1

If responding to an ATWS

  • trip bkrs are not open
  • rods are not in core (but being driven in)
  • power = 3% and lowering

……….upon reaching point in the procedure to address other procedures (i.e. FR-H.1), can you transition out of FR-S.1?

If yes, are there any conditions that would not allow you to transition out of FR-S.1?

A

YES, you can transition out of FR-S.1

If you still have active red path for criticality

(PR > 5%)

OR

(IR SUR +)

you cannot transition out of FR-S.1 but you are instructed to perform other FR procedures in effect
