Q

Describe how fracture healed?

A

1) Haematoma formation
Blood vessels in broken bone tear
Clotted blood- haematoma

2) Bone generation- fibrocartilaginous callus
Capillaries grow into haematoma
Fibroblasts and osteoblasts build bone
Fibroblasts- collagen
Osteoblasts- spongy bone
Fibrocartilaginous callus formed

3) Bony callus formation
Fibrocartilaginous callus converted to bony callus

4) Bone remodelling
Bony callus undergo endochondral ossification
Osteoclasts and osteoblasts remodel bone
Vascularity normal
