Q

what happens in the brain during recovery?

A
  • the brain is able to rewire and reorganize itself by forming new synaptic connections close to the area of damage

Q

Tajiri et al - the role of stem cells in recovery from brain injury

A
  • randomly assigned rats with traumatic brain injury to one of the 2 groups
  • 1 group received transplants of stem cells into the region of the brain affected by traumatic injury
  • control group = solution infused into the brain of stem cells rats showed clear development of neuron-like cells in that area of injury
