2
Q

Where does the gallbladder lie?

A

In the fossa for the gallbladder on the visceral surface of the liver. The fossa lies at the junction of the right and left lobes of the liver.

Q

How is the gallbladder attached to the liver?

A

The hepatic surface of the liver is attached to the liver by connective tissue of the fibrous capsule of the liver.

9
Q

Describe the drainage of bile from hepatocytes.

A

Hepatocytes produce bile continuously, secreting it into canaliculi. Canaliculi drain into the small interlobular biliary duct and then into large collecting bile ducts, which in turn merge to form the right and left hepatic ducts.

Q

Describe how the ducts of the biliary tree join up.

A

Right and left hepatic bile ducts join to form the common hepatic bile duct.
Common hepatic bile duct and cystic duct join to form the common bile duct.
Pancreatic duct joins common bile duct to form ampulla of varter.
Sphincter of oddi is at the ampulla of varter.

Q

What is the venous drainage from the neck of the bladder and cystic duct?

A

The cystic veins. These small and usually multiple veins enter the liver directly or drain through the hepatic portal vein.

Q

What is the venous drainage of the fundus and body of the gallbladder?

A

Venous drainage passes directly into the visceral surface of the liver and drain into the hepatic sinusoids.
