What is the MNT for gallbladder disease?

A

Cholecystitis - (gallstones with inflammation of the gallbladder

acute: low fat diet, no need to reduce dietary cholesterol beyond current recommendations
chronic: 25-30% fat

Dissolve stones with meds or remove gallbladder surgically ; advance to regular diet as tolerated

What is the MNT for pancreatitis

A

Acute: rest the pancreas; withhold oral feeding initially

When ready: start oral/tube feedings
IV fluids for only a few days or clear liquids- progress as tolerated
6 or more small meals, low fat diet/avoid fatty meals

TPN may be needed with close monitoring, enteral nutrition is preferred
