Gas and nutrient exchange Flashcards
(6 cards)
How do oxygen and carbon dioxide move through blood?
Inhaled oxygen moves from the alveoli to the blood in the capillaries, and carbon dioxide moves from the blood in the capillaries to the air in the alveoli. Oxygen and carbon dioxide move between the alveoli and capillaries via diffusion.
Where does gas exchange occur?
Gas exchange takes place in the millions of alveoli in the lungs and the capillaries that envelop them.
Where does nutrient exchange occur?
Nutrient exchange takes place in the small intestine
What forms are food digested in?
Food is digested into small soluble forms including glucose, amino acids and fatty acids.
What allows the intestine to absorb nutrient molecules?
The small intestine is lined with villi that absorb these nutrient molecules.
What is the function of the LI
to reabsorb water and electrolytes.
