The cell cycle
- Growth
- Dividing
Runners - asexual
Shoot that grow along the ground and root themselves, a new plant will grow where the runner has rooted.
Zygote cell
Divides in two multiple times to create a ball of unspecialised cells containing embryonic stem cells.
IVF
By switching certain cells on or off, they can be manipulated into a certain type of cell , then left to divide forming a particular tissue. —> a group of identical specialised cells.
Difference between embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.
Embryonic make any type of stem cell, where as adult stem cells are limited to types of cells they can make.
Meristems
Where cells remain unspecialised. Able to divide to form more unspecialised cells or to form differentiated specialised cells. Allow a plant to grow whole organs if need to be replaced.
Water lilys
Multi-cellular plant. Needs CO2 to reach chloroplasts for photosynthesis. Large leaves maximise surface area available for diffusion of CO2. Thin leaves reduce distance to cells. High surface area to volume ratio.
