gen chem Flashcards
(28 cards)
are made up of two or more substances which are mixed chemically combined
Mixture
has only one phase and a uniform composition all throughout (ex Water & salt)
Homogeneous mixture
a homogeneous mixture composed of Solute & solvent
solution
a substance that is being dissolved (salt)
solute
the dissolving medium (water)
solvent
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SOLUTION
- Solid-solid solution
- Solid-in-Liquid solution
- Liquid-Liquid solution
- Gas-liquid solution
- Gas-gas solution
two or more solids are combined to form of mixture. An example of this is an alloy.
Solid-solid solution
the solute (the avortance that is dissolved) is inchid acid form while the solvent (the substance that dissolves the solute) is in liquid form.
the solid dissolves in the liquid because they have the same molecular property
Solid-in-Liquid solution
two or more liquids are mixed to create a solution in liquid form
An example of this is water and alcohol
Liquid-Liquid solution
involves the combination of a gas and a liquid
Example: a carbonated drink, soda, beer Carbonated drinks are in liquid form. but contain dissolved garer which from bubbles when the bottled gas released
Gas-liquid solution
combination of two or more gases combined
Gas-gas solution
has two or more phares
does not have a uniform composition
are substance can be separated from the other
Heterogeneous mixture
are heterogeneous mixture that have particles bigger than those of a solution but smaller than the suspension
Colloids
mixture distributed in dispersal medium
dispersal phase
substance used by dispersal phase
dispersal medium
have gas as the dispersed medium. and the dispersed phase is either solid or liquid
aerosols
are mixtures of two or more liquids that are immiscible or cannot attain homogeneity
Emulsions
are colloids in which a gas is dispersed into a solid or liquid
foams
are colloids having solid as the dispersed ase and solid or liquid as the dispersed medium.
sols
are heterogeneous mixtures that have partides bigger than those colloids..
They contain solid particles which eventually settle after interacting with a solvent-like phare
Suspensions
reper to how clore the measured value is relative to a standard value
accuracy
refers to how close to one another the Treasured value in a series are.
precision
pertain to the digits or Figures that are certain to give reasonably reliable information
significant figures
Rutes in Determining Significant Figures
- all non-zero digits (1-9) are significant
- Zeros to the left of first non-zero digit are not significant
- Zeros between non-zero digits are significant
- zeros to the right of a non-zero digit with a decimal point are significant
- zeror at the end of a non-zero digit without a decimal point are not significant
