A

Engaging in peaceful trade
Exchanging horses, grain, metal, cloth, and tea.
They were tempted by land and wealth, so they would often take civilization by force.
Nomadic forces would usually became part of the societies they conquered.

Why was terror an important weapon?

A

It allowed Genghis Khan to obtain information through torture used on captured prisoners of war.
Used terms to intimidate enemies to hopefully have them surrender before battle.
Created terror by threatening his enemies and occasionally killing the population.
Used cruelty as a weapon.

Summarize the extent of the mongol empire under Genghis Khan.

A

Came into power by winning the mongol civil war. He vastly expanded his empire be defeating many different military’s. He used a strategy that consulted archers on horses. The empire stretched from Korea to Europe. When Genghis died, his son took his place.

How did his successors divide the empire? What challenges did this present under their rule?

A

They split into 4 regions:
Khanate of the great Khan ( Mongolia and China )
Khanate of Chagatai ( Central Asia )
Ilkhanate (Persia)
Khanate of the Golden Horde (Russia)
The growing cultural differences between the khanate is the reason the empire split up.
