An area with a common characteristic throughout

Migration
When people move from one place to another permanently
Place
The characteristics of a location
Commuting
A regular, often daily journey to work
Meso Scale
A middle level - between micro and macro
Weather
The daily state of the atmosphere
Intensive Land Use
Generally flat land with high input per hectare, usually used for agricultural purposes. They often have smaller fields and are near streams
Extensive Land Use
Generally steep, hilly land with low input per hectare. They often have larger fields and are away from streams
Physical Geography
About landscape and features that are made naturally
Human Geography
About what people do to the physical world - changing, creating, etc
Environmental Geography
About how people interact with the environment (area we live in)
Aspect
The direction a building faces in relation to the sun, eg a northerly aspect. In New Zealand, this can make a building warmer and add to its value
Map
A picture of a place drawn on a flat surface
Precipitation
Any moisture that falls from the atmosphere to the ground eg rain, snow, sleet
Cartographers
People who produce maps from data
Contour lines
A line drawn on a map that joins together points of equal height
Contour interval
The difference in height between two successive contour lines
