Crucifixion

A

Ancient method of execution
600BCE to 400AD
Nailed or tied to large wooden cross and left to die
Often already beaten
May have to carry one beam to place where nailed on and erected
Nailed ankles or feet too, sometime break legs so can’t support weight
Died of suffocation, poisoning, blood loss, shock etc

Atonement

A

Christians say….
Jesus death brought atonement as humans could be “at one” with God once again

Jesus died to bridge the gap between humanity and God, separated by sin

He appeared outside another tomb in bodily form
Stories of him walking with 2 disciples to another village from Jerusalem
He was teaching disciples to have faith and continue his teachings

After resurrection and visiting many people over many days, Christians believe Jesus left the living world and ascended to heaven to be with God
