What is green crime?
Green crime is a form of transgressive criminology
Green criminology was first discussed by Michael Lynch, and refers to crimes committed against the environment
What is transgressive criminology?
Transgressive criminology is interested in a broader definition of crime which causes harm, rather than strictly activities which are against the law
Examples of green crime?
-Air pollution
-Water pollution
-Deforestation
-Species decline due to abuse of animal rights
Some of these activities may be illegal, other types of activities may not be illegal, but nevertheless cause harm (hence transgressive)

Two perspectives of Harm
Anthropogenic Harm:
-considers harm from the perspective of humanity; the impact on people and the economy
-e.g. climate change
Ecocentric Harm:
-considers the whole ecosystem, not just from a human perspective
-e.g. destruction of habitats

-indirectly impacts the environment
-e.g. corruption to avoid environmental laws
