Where do you get your location code for the GSMR from?

A

Use the last 3 digits from the starting signal or wildcard from sectional appendix 99x (EMRs wildcard is 997)

How do you get your registration code for GSMR?

A

Head code + location code (last 3 digits from controlling signal) = registration code

What is an Alias plate?

A

Where there is no signal or if there is confusion over what location number to enter an Alias plate will be provided to register the GSMR.

A

When passing a message regarding immediate movement of the train that can’t wait till the next stop.

If you have come to a stand at a signal at danger what should you do?
Press the SG (standing at signal) button on GSMR immediately unless there is an obvious reason as to why the signal is at danger.

When you are travelling using a wildcard to register the GSMR.

Can you set up the GSMR while moving?
No, Never, the GSMR must always be set up at while at a stand, preferably before the journey starts.

After receiving a REC when can you start moving again?
Only if you've been told to by the signaller or you've heard "end of railway emergency group call" and are certain that the train is not affected by the incident. Then proceed at caution to the next signal.

When moving after an emergency call what must you do?
Only move if you've been told to do so by the signaller, then proceed at caution to the next signal at a speed where you can stop if you discover and obstruction, or red signal, obeying all instructions given.

What must you do if you receive a Berth-Triggered Broadcast Call?
Listen Understand Acknowledge (press ST on GSMR) Follow any instructions A berth-triggered broadcast call is a pre-recorded message received by the train when it enters a selected berth. The berth-triggered broadcast can be acknowledged when instructed to do so by pressing the ST button once the message has completed, the call terminated and the instructions understood. The berth-triggered broadcast allows the signaller to caution a train in certain circumstances without the need to bring the train to a stand first.

What are the 3 different types of Group calls?
1 - RAILWAY EMERGENCY GROUP CALL (REC) This is a multi-party method of communication but only one person can speak at a time. 2- BROADCAST AREA CALL This is a method of communication which allows a signaller to broadcast a message to several trains within a given area. 3 - SHUNTING GROUP CALL These are conference calls where multiple drivers and shunters can participate in the call.

At a maintenance depot if a train has a defective GSM-R in a cab that it is required to be driven from should it come into service?
NO - you must not allow a train to start a journey with a defective radio in any cab which is required to be driven from at any time during its planned working.
