How would you give a blood transfusion? What are the complications?
A
- Consent
- Identify patient
- speak to patient, 2nd staff member to check patients name band and drug chart
- Inspect bags
- check for damage, expiry dates, patients details match, blood group and number same on bag and tags and transfusion slip
TRALI/TACO/ARDs
TRALI less common due to leucodepletion
Other complications of blood tx - Hypothermia, Coagulopathy, low Plts, low Ca, high K
