- 100 million population, 22% live in poverty
- Earthquakes:
- Very common, in the last 10yrs there has been 13 above 6 mag
e.g. 1976 Moro Gulf Earthquake caused a Tsunami killing 8,000
- Volcanic Activity:
23 active volcanos across the country
- Pinatubo Erupted violently in 1991
- Led to 3% decline in Philippines GDP

Tropical storms:
- Numerous every year and they have the highest death toll of all hazards in the Philippines
- Typhoon Rolly in 2020 displaced 400,000 + killed 25

In the past 20yrs there have been over 300 natural hazards and between 2000-2012 there’s been 13,000 deaths
