What is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
Principal concept is your employer is responsible for your safety at work
Also must report injuries and dangerous occurrences

The concept of a safe person means that each individual assumes individual behavioural responsibility for their own, their colleagues and others health and safety while at work

What is a risk assessment?
Assesses the likelihood of hazards occurring, as well as who may be in danger.
What is the 6 step approach to a risk assessment?
- Identify any risks on site, any hazards, e.g cars, other people etc
- Identify people associated, inspection would be you are colleagues
- Evaluate if it safe to visit the site and carry inspection out.
- Record on suitable form, keep form on file.
- Review whenever attending site.
- Advise those affectively.
What is the difference between a hazard and a risk?
Hazard – anything that might cause harm.
Risk – likelihood that someone will be harmed

What are the different types of asbestos? When were the banned?
Blue / brown, banned 1985.
White, banned 1999.
Where would you find asbestos in a building?
Could be anywhere, but typically in the roof and floor.
What are the types of asbestos survey?
Management survey – locate and assess during occupation.
Refurbishment – take samples and look to remove asbestos.
How long do you have to notify HSE if you are removing asbestos?
14 days prior
What would you do if you discovered asbestos on an inspection?
I would remove myself and alert others, and ensure that the areas was closed off and instruct a management survey.
Who maintains an asbestos register? Who is the duty holder?
Either the landlord, tenant or property manager.
5 steps of asbestos register
- Assess whether premises has asbestos.
- Assess risk and produce management plan.
- Produce asbestos register.
- Make register available to all necessary parties.
- Review (HSE recommend) 6 monthly.

What is RIDDOR?
Reporting Injury, Disease, Dangerous Occurrences Regs 2013.
Injuries reported to HSE within 15 days of incident and kept in accident book for 3 years after occupational accident/injury.
