Health & Safety Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are Mace specific H&S guidelines?
HSW moment for all meetings with more than 3 people.
All staff must complete basic internal health and safety courses, such as fire safety.
Employees must notify LM’s when visiting site.
What sort of questions would you include in a PQQ to assess their H&S record?
One example of a question i have included is
“Are there any judgements, claims or suits pending or outstanding against you?”
What do you know of the CDM 2015 regulations?
The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) are the main set of regulations for managing the health, safety, and welfare of construction projects. CDM applies to all building and construction work, including new build, demolition, refurbishment, extensions, conversions, repair, and maintenance.
When does an F10 become notifiable?
A construction project is notifiable if the construction work is expected to:
- Last longer than 30 working days and have more than 20 workers working at the same time at any point on the project
or
- Exceed 500 person days
What approved documents are you aware of?
I am aware of:
- approved document B (fire safety).
- approved document L (conservation of fuel and power) - M&E (boiler needs to be 92% efficient)
- approved document M is access to and use of buildings (buildings need ramps for disabled access).
What is the purpose of the pre-construction information pack?
It is a compulsory document under CDM2015.
PCI includes all relevant health and safety details about the project, covering:
Project scope and design specifications
Management processes and responsibilities
Potential hazards and risk assessments
Existing health and safety files
What legislation are applicable to construction proejcts?
- CDM 2015
- Health & Safety Act 1974
- Building Safety 2022
- Working at height 2005
- COSHH 2002
When arriving on your site, what steps would you take to ensure safety?
- Pre-arranging my visit.
- Perform a risk assessment if it was a derelict site.
- Meeting contractor at gate, going to site office to sign in and have an induction.
- Stay with assigned person, be aware of potential hazards on site and sign out when leaving.
The site you are visiting has a principal contractor, what are some of their main responsibilities under CDM?
- Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate construction activities.
- Liaise with the client and PD to ensure all risks are managed.
- Ensure suitable welfare facilities are provided and maintained throughout construction.
- Prepare and continually review the construction phase plan.
What is a construction phase plan?
A construction phase plan is a plan prepared by the contractor ahead of construction works. The plan must outline the health and safety arrangements, site rules and specific measures concerning any work involving the risks listed in Schedule 3 of the CDM 2015 Regulations.
How would you manage asbestos on a construction project?
- Conduct pre-refurbishment and pre-demolition asbestos surveys.
- Follow removal or encapsulation protocols once surveys find asbestos.
- Implement mandated air monitoring after removal tasks.
- Maintain strict workplace safety and adhere to building regulations.
- Apply short-duration work strategies during asbestos management.
Who is responsible for notifying a project (F10)?
If it is a commercial client, then it is them.
If it is a domestic client, it is the contractor or the PD (if there is written agreement they will carry out the duties of the client).
What is surveying safely?
It is a professional standard published by RICS which sets out principles relating to health and safety for RICS regulated members and firms. It covers things ranging from the ‘safe person’ concept to visiting site.
What is surveying safely’s ‘safe person’ concept?
RICS considers the concept of a ‘safe person’ to mean someone who assumes behavioral responsibility for their own, their colleagues’ and others’ health and safety while at work.
What does surveying safely say about visiting site?
Surveying safely provides a checklist of things to consider before visiting site, such as:
- travelling to and from site.
- lone working.
- condition of property.
- site rules and welfare.
