Health status indicators Flashcards
(9 cards)
Morbidity
refers to ill health in an individual and population, often express in incidence and prevalence
Burden of disease
A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries, specifically it measures the gap between the current health status and an ideal situation where everyone to an old age free from disease and disability. Measured with DALY
DALY
years lost living with a disability
YLL (years of life lost) + YLD (years lived with disability)
Burden of disease
A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries, specifically the gap between current health status and an ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age free of diseases and disability
MORTALITY
Mortality refers to deaths particularly in a population.Mortality rate the measurement of the proportion of a population who die on a one year period (usually per 100 000)
LIFE EXPECTANCY
An indication of how long a person can expect live, it is the number of years of life remaining to a person at a particular age if death rates do not change.
INFANT MORTALITY RATE
the rate of deaths of infants between birth and their first birthday, usually expressed per 1000 live births.
MATERNAL MORTALITY
Death of a mother during pregnancy, childbirth or within six weeks of delivery
DISABILITY-ADJUSTED LIFE YEAR (DALY)
A measure of burden of disease, one DALY equals one year of healthy life lost due to premature death and time lived with illness, disease or injury.*DALY = YLL + YLD
