Heart Flashcards
(5 cards)
what are capilleries responsible for?
what are some features?
exchange, connect viens and arteries.
1 cell thick wall and narrow tube
- what do arteries do?
what are the features?
take blood away from the heart
narrow tube and thick layer of muscle and elastic fibre to withstand the sudden increase of pressure with each pulse
what do veins do
what are the features
take blood into heart
wide tube and thin/ flexible wall
- How does blood travel around the body?
1.the heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs to take in oxygen.
2.Oxygenated blood then returns to the heart.
3.the heart pumps oxygenated blood around all the other organs of the body to deliver oxygen to the body cells. Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart.
4. cycle repeats.
(right artium, right ventricle, plumonary artium, lungs, plumonary viens, left artium, left ventricle, left ventrcel, aorta.)
- why is the left ventricle walls thicker than the right ventricle?
need more muscle because it has to pump blood around the whole body at high pressure whereas the right ventricle only has to pump it to the lungs.
