Heart + Blood Flashcards
(31 cards)
Platelets
Clot blood to prevent any micro organisms
Made in bone marrow
RBCS
Transport oxygen
No nucleus
Biconcave shape to increase surface area
Made in red bone marrow
Haemoglobin to help carry oxygen
WBC
Help fight against infection
No definite shape
Made in bone marrow
2 types of WBCS
Lymphocytes- produces antibodies
Mainly in lymphatic system
Monocytes-works all over body
Engulf and destroy pathogens
Platelets
Clot blood to prevent any micro organisms.
Produces in bone marrow
Blood groups
A , AB , B , O
Rhesus factor
85% of Irish ppl have it on their RBC
RH+ (you have it)
RH- (you don’t)
The circulatory systems 2 types
Open
Closed
The circulatory system open
Heart pumps blood into open ended vessels. Blood flows from open vessels around the cells
Eg, insects + lobsters
The circulatory system closed
Blood remains in a continuous system of blood vessels.
Blood is enclosed in vessels
Eg, animals
Why is closed system better?
Pumps blood faster
Blood flows rate to different organs can be changed
Arteries
Pump blood away from the heart
No valves , narrow lumen , thick walls
Veins
Carry blood STRAIGHT to the heart
Have valves , wide lumen , thin walls
Vena cava
Takes deoxygenated blood to right atria
Pulmonary artery
Carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs
Aorta
Takes oxygenated blood around the body
Pulmonary vein
Takes oxygenated blood to the left atria
Two circuits
Pulmonary circuit
Systemic circuits
Pulmonary circuit
Heart-blood-hear
Systemic circuit
Heart-rest of body - heart
LORD🙏🏾 systemic and pulmonary circuit
Left oxygenated , right deoxygenated
Why is 2 circuits important?
Keep blood separated
Keeps blood pressure high
Portal system
Blood pathway that starts and ends in capillaries , carries oxygenated blood to liver
Hepatic system
Connects the small intestine to the liver , removes the deoxygenated blood from liver
