Amicable Grant Rebellion (1525)
A
- Unpopular non-parliamentary tax to fund war against France.
- Peaceful resistance in Lavenham where 4000 protested; the rebellion was stopped by the Dukes of Northfolk and Souffolk.
- Partial success – Henry VIII cancelled the grant.

A
- Henry VIII made himself Supreme Head of the Church of England via the Act of Supremacy, breaking from the Pope.
- Mixed Sucess - Gave Henry power and solved his Great Matter, but caused unrest and divided the country religiously.

- Dissolution of monasteries, religious changes, economic issues.
- 30,000 rebels occupied York; negotiated then crushed.
- Failure – pilgrimages bannedin 1538.

- Short-term gain, long-term damage - Boosted royal finances with £1.3 million made but destroyed community services (schools, hospitals) and displaced monks/nuns.

- Plot discovered by Cromwell; Reginald Pole and the Pole family were executed.
