What are people (your project, business and sports team) looking for in leaders?

A

To be that person to step up, no need to be the loudest person in the room but someone with confidence. You need to exhibit certain behaviors about yourself and be consistent in those and you must have that positive energy. you are the foundation, and they are looking for that energy that you radiate for them to radiate back to you.

Q

Getting the right people in which context?

A

Not the most experience, that does not qualify for output. Sometimes people with the most experience could also cause you the most problems too. They have delicate personalities; you have to manage every day of the week. You need to look for people with competencies with maximum positive energy and potential. Forego those highly experienced people with the massive egos. Steer well clear away from them.

Q

Why is it important to look for people with competence and positive energy?

A

This is what you need to look for when you need to deliver your urgent report or when you have your crisis meeting with your CEO. You want those people who can carry themselves well with that positive energy and go that extra mile. It’s also about culture; you need a culture of people who can melt together. s.

Q

What else important?

A

You can have people of different races and different backgrounds, but you, as a leader, set that culture and establish that warm, open environment where your team can actually try things out, fail and can pick themselves up and start achieving as a team. you want them to work together and don’t look for people who want to outshine other.

Q

How do you empower your team?

A

Don’t try to be dictatorial leaders. Don’t expect the team to do everything in the back in the call. This is not good. The high-performing team is one that is empowered to make decisions on your behalf. You want them to exercise good judgment and make the best decision they can because a timely decision is better than no decision at all. You don’t want to have a bunch of robots.
