Q

Thomas Test - description

A

pt lies supine while the examiner checks for excessive lordosis, which is usually present with tight hip flexors. examiner flexes one of pt’s hips, bringing the knee to the chest to flatten out lumbar spine and to stabilize pelvis. pt holds flexed hip against chest

Q

Ober’s Test - description

A

pt S/L with lower leg flexed at hip and knee for stability. examiner then passively abducts and extends the pt’s upper leg with knee straight or flexed to 90d. examiner slowly lowers upper limb

Q

Ely’s Test - purpose

A

to identify tightness of rectus femoris

17
Q

Ely’s Test - description

A

pt prone and examiner passively flexes pt’s knee

18
Q

Ely’s Test - result

A

(+) hip on same side spontaneously flexes with knee flexion

19
Q

90-90 Hamstring Test - purpose

A

identify hamstring tighness

20
Q

90-90 Hamstring Test - description

A

pt supine and flexes both hip to 90d while the knees are bent. pt may grasp behind the knees with both hands to stabilize hips at 90d of flexion. pt actively extends each knee one at a time

21
Q

90-90 Hamstring Test - result

A

(+) if knee is unable to reach 10d from neutral position (lacking 10d of extension

22
Q

Tripod Sign - purpose

A

identify tightness of hamstring muscle

23
Q

Tripod Sign - description

A

pt is seated with both knees flexed to 90d over the edge of table. examiner then passively extends on knee

24
Q

Tripod Sign - result

A

(+) pt extends trunk to relieve tension in hamstring muscle

25
Piriformis Test - purpose
identifies piriformis syndrome
26
Piriformis Test - description
pt S/L with test leg uppermost. pt flexes test hip to 60d with knee flexed. examiner stabilizes hip with one hand and applies a downward pressure to knee
27
Piriformis Test - result
tight muscle = pain elicited in muscle sciatica = pain results in buttock - muscle pinching nerve
28
Leg Length Test - purpose
identify true leg length discrepancy
29
Leg Length Test - description
pt supine. tape measure ASIS to medial/lateral malleolus. compare both sides
30
Leg Length Test - result
difference of 1-1.3 cm (0.5-1in) is normal
31
Craig's Test - purpose
identify abnormal femoral anteversion
32
Craig's Test - description
pt lies prone with knee flexed to 90d. examiner palpates greater trochanter of femur. hip is then passively rotated medially nd laterally until greater trochanter is parallel with table/reaches its most lateral position
33
Craig's Test - result
normal = 8-15d anteversion = >15d retroversion = <8d
