Holderness Coast Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are the reasons for rapid erosion in the holderness coast
-The cliffs are made out of boulder clay which is very sensible to erosion and slumping
-beaches there are usually very narrow
-North sea has a large fetch which means waves gain alot of energy when they reach holderness
-groynes disrupted natural flow of sediment along coast
What method has Hornsea used to manage erosion
Seawalls and groynes (these methods were effective however they resulted in erosion further down the coast)
What methods has Mappleton used to manage erosion
-Groynes however this led to more erosion down south of the coast where there wasn’t much protection
-Rock armour
-Cliff Reprofilling-However because the cliffs were made from clay still posed a risk of slumping and land slides
What methods did Cliff House Farm use to manage erosion?
-Rock armour
-Sea walls-Negative visual impact
-Slope stabilization (reducing the gradient of cliffs)
-Beach nourishment
