What is a holy war?
A war believed to be fought for a religious cause, often the approval or lead by a religious leader or authority.
What do Christians believe about holy war?
In the past, some Christians believed fighting in a holy war made them martyrs — people who die for their faith — and that they would be rewarded with a place in heaven. For example, during the Crusades, many believed they were fighting a sacred battle for God. However, most modern Christians reject holy war because it contradicts Jesus’ message of peace, love, and forgiveness, more likely fighting now using the power or arguement and words.
What is the purpose of a holy war?
To defend the faith, protect religious people or sites, or spread a religion. It is often believed that those who fight in a holy war will be spiritually rewarded. Modern Christianity does not always support this idea.
