highly effective

27
explain how natural contraception works
abstaining from sexual intercourse during the time after ovulation
28
why is this form not 100% accurate
it is very hard to tell when a women has ovulated
29
why may some religions disagree with contraception
catholics for example believe that life begins at conception and so any form of stopping this life is unethical
30
why may some women and men struggle with infertility
some men may have a reduced sperm count and some women may find it difficult to conceive
31
what makes up the "fertility drug" given to women
FSH and LH
32
what does this drug/injecytion cause
it causes the women to ovulate more then usual increasing her chances of becoming pregnant through sexual intercourse
33
what is another popular form of infertility treatment
IVF
34
how does IVF work
fertilization takes place outside the body
35
what are the stages of IVF
- the mother is injected with FSH and LH causing several eggs to mature - these eggs are then collected from the mother - sperm from the father is collected and is used to fertilize the eggs in the laboratory - these fertilized eggs then develop into embryos and are inserted into the mothers uterus - these embryos then develop in the mother in a normal way
36
what is the benefit to IVF
it gives the women chance to have a baby of her own
37
what are the possible problems with IVF
- success rates are not high - stressful for both parents - physically demanding for the mother - can lead to multiple births which is risky for both the mother and the children - its expensive
38
why do some people think IVF is unethical
- not all the embryos that are created will be transferred into the mother meaning many are destroyed. some people could find this unethical
