homeostatis and response Flashcards
(10 cards)
Neurone’s transmit
information very quickly to and from the brain and your brain quickly detects how to respond to stimulus
Synapase
connection between two neurone’s is called a Synapase
Nerve signals
is transferred by chemicals which diffuse across the gap
Reflexes
are rapid, automatic responses to certain stimuli that don’t involve the conscious part of the brain that can reduce injury
The neurones in reflex arc
goes through the spinal cord when a stimulus such as a bee sting is detected by receptors, impulses are sent along sensory neurone to relay neurone in the CHS
Hormones
are chemical messengers sent in the blood. Produced in (secreted by) various glands . The glands make up the endocrine system.
Puitary gland
produces many hormones that regulate body conditions
Pancreas
produce insulin which is used to regulate the blood glucose level
Thyroid
produces thyroxine which regulates metabolism , heart rate and temperate
adrenal gland
produces adrenaline to prepare the body for ‘ fight or flight’
