Performance management = concerned with business performance through improvement through various HRM functions and procedures, including performance appraisal
Performance APPRAISAL = SHRM tool = examines skills, abilities, knowledge and attitudes of individuals
Performance appraisal process:
- Review, evaluate strengths, weaknesses of employee
- Communicate them
- Determine plan to build strengths and improve weaknesses
- Implement plan (personal management, training, developement)
- Review the change in performance after a time frame
Should performance criteria be linked to recruitment, induction and training plans?

- Prepare for it
= purpose of appraisal, SMART goals
= identify strengths and weaknesses - During appraisal
= communication is essential
= validated feedback
= develop action plan
= advise of next review date based on action plan - After
= ensure action plan and outcomes are put into place
= maintain action until next review
