HTS (3) Flashcards

1
Q

HTS +bioassays

A
  • High throughput screening involves using a chemical “library” and testing to activity against your target (100-1000’s of compounds)
  • 2 types of lib (combinatorial + natural product)

2
Q

Combinatorial Libraries; pros and cons

A
  • PRO: chemical synthesis = ability to produce lots of compounds at a fast rate
CON: Structural diversity is limited (all in the same family)
CON: Difficult separations because of the low structural diversity

3
Q

Natural base products; pros and cons

A
  • Plant/bacterial extracts that contain many diff molecules or compounds
PRO: Highly diverse set of structures and bioavailable
CON: Complex mixtures are very hard to isolate (difficult to identify active component)
