Why might some Christians say that Sex outside of marriage is acceptable?

The Bible’s teachings about sex are set in context of very different societies and need not to be interpreted for people today.


What is meant by ‘Sexual Sin’?

The Bible refers to avoiding sexual din and Christians interpret this to mean either sex outside of marriage, adultery, promiscuity or other sexual relationships which go against the church teachings.

Why might some Christians belie that divorce is unacceptable due to the sanctity of marriage?

Many Christians believe that when a couple gets married they are joined together by God. Therefore they do not believe that divorce has the power to destroy Gods bond of marriage.

Catholics believe that divorce cannot separate a couple joined together by God in marriage but will allow couples who were not in a ‘true marriage’ to have their marriage annulled (cancelled).


Give one reason why a marriage may be annulled?

• The man or the woman did not consent to the marriage
• The man or woman did not understand what marriage is about
• The couple did not or could not have sex
• The man or woman refuse to have children


Why might some Christians believe remarriage is acceptable?

Once a person is divorced they no longer have nay ties to their former partner so nothing is stopping them from making a new commitment. Biblical teaching on forgiveness means that some Christians believe that divorced people should be forgiven and allowed a fresh start and a new marriage.

Depending on their views they may be accepting towards the person and help them accept themselves and come out or they might persuade them to pray to get rid of the homosexual feelings or tell them not to have homosexual sex as the act is a sin.

The romantic Catholic Church does not allow female priests due to the belief jess passed this authority down through males.However most protestant churches accept equality of the sexes.


What is the difference between a civil partnership and marriage?

A civil partnership is the legal bonding of two people of the same sex, the couple have the same rights as a married couple but their bonding is not recognised as an official marriage.
