Ice and Rain Protection System Flashcards
(30 cards)
How does the ice detection system work?
Probe on forward left fuselage picks up ice, then after detection, is vibrated off for no ice
Where does engine anti ice come from?
5th stage bleed air
What does the cowl anti ice light mean?
Excessive pressure in duct downstream of valve
Where does engine anti-ice work?
Ice formation on the cowl lip
Where does wing anti-ice work?
Inboard leading edge slats
What does wing anti-ice use?
Bleed air
Wing anti-ice on ground?
Opens both control valves when thrust is below takeoff warning. Trips off when air ground sensor switches
Is there any drawbacks with wing anti-ice on the ground?
Degrades OBIGGS inerting
Stall warning logic of wing anti-ice in flight?
On for the rest of the flight
Where does the empennage and wingtip de-ice system work?
Horizontal stabilizer, vertical stabilizer, raked wingtip leading edge
Empennage and wingtip de-ice system flow
De-icing control unit sends signals to the energy storage brakes that hold charges for the electromechanical expulsive de-icing system
Where does the radome de-ice work?
Nose Radome
How does the radome de-ice rid ice?
Pneumatic boot
What to do if you turn on radome deice late?
Dont turn it on because shed ice will damage the aircraft and the engine
Where does the wing pylon de-ice work?
Wing pylons
How many heaters and where are they for the pylon de-ice system?
3 electric heaters
-Upper
-Lower
-Fairing
How does the pylon deice system work in flight?
Fluctuates if the control temperature is reached
What happens if one pylon heater fails?
All the heaters fail
Does the pylon de-ice work on the ground?
No, will reset once in flight to prevent overheat
What does the probe heat power?
Pitot tubes, TAT probes, and alpha vane (Static port not heated)
What probes are heated on standby power?
Only the left side probe, not the standby probe
What windows to the window heat switches power?
Numbers 1 and 2 windows are heated to a steady temperature for maximum strength of a bird strike. Window 3 is modulated
When do you use Engine Anti-Ice on the ground?
Immediately after engine starts when icing conditions exist or are anticipated
What to do if cowl light turns bright blue on the ground at idle?
Turn the APU bleed air off and advance to a max 30% N1
