Q

Identify when Family Sharing impacts BYOD devices.

A
  • Children under 13 will need an Apple ID created using Family Sharing. (If only one device, this can cause issue with security notifications and you can’t remotely control the device.)
  • Apps and books distributed to a user through your MDM solution aren’t shared with family members if the user has a Family Sharing account with iCloud.

Q

Troubleshoot iCloud features.

A

Two common issues that occur while backing up to iCloud are insufficient storage and incomplete backup. Restoring your iPhone from an incomplete backup might result in lost data.

Settings, tap [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups. Turn off apps that you don’t want to back up, then tap Turn Off & Delete to confirm.

If iCloud backup issues persist, upgrade your iCloud storage or reduce the backup size.

Q

Recognize MDM settings that supersede iCloud features.

A

Some iCloud features will not work with Managed Apple IDs. For example, users can’t use Apple Pay, iCloud Mail, iCloud Family Sharing, Message (allow in iCloud), iCloud Keychain (although Keychain items are saved and restored on Shared iPad devices).

MDM set restrictions:

  • iCloud Private Relay
  • Password Autofill
  • iCloud Photos, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmarks, Keychain, docs/data, backup
  • Managed app’s stored data in iCloud
  • Backup, Notes and highlights sync for proprietary in-house books
