Ideal Gases (Jones) Flashcards
(30 cards)
Why do gases exert a pressure
Gas particles collide with an object
Each collision enters a force as pressure why Gas= force/area
If there is a total force exerted on an area there must be a pressure Elastic collision
What is an elastic collision
A collision does not lose energy or waste it
What is newtons real second law
Resultant force applied is directly proportional to the rate of change of momentum
Resultant force equation
F=change in momentum/ time(for collisions)
What is avogodra number
6.02x10^23 = 1 mole
What is a mole
Number of atoms that are in 12g or o.o12 kg of carbon 12
What is molar mass
Mass of 1 mole of particles
What is N equal to
Number of atoms present
What is n equal to
Number of moles
What is the equation linking N,n,Na
N = n x Na
What is the equation for mass of 1 atom
m/N
What does m/N correlate to
Mass of 1 atom
What is molar mass
m/n
What does m/n correlate to
Molar mass
What is boyles law
Pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to its volume
What conditions must be met for Boyle law to be true
As long a temperature remains constant
The mass of the gas is constant (the number of moles or the number of molecules of gas is constant)
What equation with pressure and volume gives you a constant
PV = constant (pacm^3)
P = pressure (Pa)
V= volume (cm^3)
What is Charles law
Volume is directly proportional to temperature(on absolute scale)
What conditions must be met for Charles law to be true
A constant pressure and mass of gas
How do you find a constant for Charles law
V/T = constant
What is the pressure law
Pressure is directly proportional to temperature
What must conditions must be met for the pressure law to be true
As long as volume of gas
A fixed mass of volume
How do you find the constant for the pressure law
P/T = constant
What does T mean
Temperature is measured in kelvin instead of degrees Celsius
