Idec Flashcards
Centripetal force vs centrifugal
Centripetal force is center seeking while centrifugal is center fleeing centripetal gravity goes from the earth to the sun but centrifugal goes away from the sun
What is geosynchronous orbit
It’s one altitude in space that if you put a satellite there it’ll orbit with the earth (22,300miles)
Explain friction and the 2 types
Friction is when things rub together
Kinetic friction is motion
Static friction is 2 objects in a gravity environment preventing them from moving
It’s proportional to mass
Explain work
Work=force(distance)
The moment something stops moving there is no work being done
Power
Power=work divided by time
How quickly something is being accomplished
Momentum
Momentum = mass x velocity
Always conserved and converted into heat energy
Elastic vs Inelastic
Elastic is when momentum is transferred to another object with no structural damage but Inelastic causes structural damage
6 simple machines
Lever, wheel and axel, wedge, incline plans, screw, and pulley
Fulcrum
Pivot point
3 types of levers
Type 1 fulcrum is middle
Type 2 output is middle
Type 3 input is middle
Pulley/weight experiment
Holding the weight straight up equals 1000 pounds but when you put it on the ramp now You have twice the distance now it’s only half of the force so now the weigh is 500
The more staighten up the ramp is, the closer to 1000 you are
force x distance = force x distance (1,000x1=500x2)
Drop rock example
If you drop a rock and count seconds each second it falls about 5 m from 0 to 1 it falls 5 m total from 0 to 2 it falls 15 from 0 to 3 it is 25 if you add those you get 45
