What was the Berlin Blockade
The U.S.S.R blocking the borders, railways, and roads to prevent people leaving
What was the cold war?
A “cold” war where there was no physical war between the two nations. From 1947-1991, a fight between two superpowers and their ideologies, capitalism and communism
Why was Josef Stalin mad at berlin being separated into four?
Berlin was in their section but because it was the most powerful, it was decided to be split into four which was not supported y the soviets

A distribution of power so that no state becomes more powerful than another

The American perspective on limiting the expansion of the communist ideology

The theory where if one country gets taken over by an expansionist nation, more countries will be taken over

The attempt to expand a nation’s territory or the nations influence

The ideological border between nations in Europe

The policy to limit involvement in other countries affairs

The American plan to aid countries that were affected by WWII

A smaller nation falling under the influence of a superpower
What is the sphere of influence?
The territory which is influenced under one main ideology and economic affair

A particularly powerful nation (the Soviet Union and the United States of America after WWII)

A policy where the U.S.A will help another nation battling communism
What is mutually assured destruction (MAD)?
Fear that if one country used nuclear weapons, other nations would reciprocate which would destroy the world

the though that the millions of dollars that have been spent on the cold war would now be used for humanitarian purposes

a competition between countries to see who could develop the most nuclear weapons

The act where a government threatens to be able to take an extreme rather than concede in a conflict

countries will secure each other

The act of lessening tensions
What does deterrence mean?
The policy of discouraging nations to take military action
