Immunopathology Flashcards

1
Q

Characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

A

Chronic systemic autoimmune disease characterized by loss of self-tolerance and production of autoantibodies.

Females are affected more often than males (M:F=1:9).

Peak incidence age 20-45

African americans are more often affected than Caucasians

Mix of type 2 and 3 hypersensitivity reactions

Q

Characteristics of X-linked agammaglobulinemia of Bruton

A

Immunodeficiency characterized by a developmental failure to produce mature B-cells and plasma cells.

Occurs due to loss of function mutations of B-cell Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK)

Clinically, the disease affects male infants who have recurrent infections beginning at 6 months of life due to the loss of passive maternal immunity.

A

Group of disorders characterized by defects in B-cell maturation that can lead to defective IgA or IgG production

Affects both sexes with onset in childhood
