Give an example of accurate data
When entering today’s date and you enter it in the correct format eg 12/03/16 then it is accurate but maybe not the correct date for today
Define up to date data
Up to date data is the most recent data that has not changed since it was recorded
Give an example of up to date data
You could be sending a letter to someone who has died which could cause distress to the bereaved
Define complete data
It is complete data when all aspects are included and all possible sources used
Give an example of complete data
When recording the data about a students home address it is important that the telephone number is recorded so that the pupils parents can be contacted in an emergency
Define valid data
Valid data is data that would be passed on any range of format checks but it may not be correct
Give an example of valid data
When recording somebody’s date of birth 03/03/16 is entered this is in the correct format for a date of birth but it might not be the correct date for that persons borthday
How does good quality info add value to an organisation
It aids the decision making process as it enables the managers to make informative decisions increasing the chance of success
It helps when looking at trends for example to see that more people are buying smaller cars and so manufactures will alter their production accordingly
Define accurate data
Accurate data is data that is correct and has no errors
What are the costs of quality information
Financial so the cost of posting letters to parents on an annual basis to check wether data about their child is correct
HUMAN: new staff have to be employed to go and ask people questions
TIME: it takes time for someone to type in the data which takes them away from another job
What are the characteristics of good quality info
ACCURATE: their should be no mistakes In the data and incorrect postcode could lead to a letter going to the wrong address
COMPLETE: all the data is there eg letters not having post codes take longer to deliver
CORRECTLY TARGETED: if you are asking for info about motorbikes no point asking car drivers
RELEVANT: there is no point using info about babies from people whose children are in their teens
