What is the United Nation’s MDGs?
(Millennium Development Goals)
-eight international development goals adopted by the United Nations in 2000
The 8 MDG Goals
- eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- achieve universal primary education
- promote gender equality and empower women
- reduce child mortality rate
- improve maternal health
- combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Global partnership for development
What is the SDG?
(Sustainable Development Goals)
-a set of 17 interconnected goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015, target year set at 2030
Bilateral Aid
It is aid provided directly from one government to another. This type of aid can be in the form of money, training, personnel, technology, food and other supplies.
Multilateral aid
It is a type of aid given through an agency such as the World Bank or International Monetary Fund (MF) and it is usually in the form of money. The agency then distributes the aid to countries that require it.
Non-governmental aid
It is given via organisations such as charities which might include Oxfam, Save The Children of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). This type of aid is varied and it can include small-scale development schemes as well as emergency assistance where there has been a natural disaster.
Foreign aid
help given by one country to another, usually in the form of money, goods, or services
Fair Trade
a way of trading products that ensures fair prices and decent working conditions for farmers and workers in developing countries, particularly in low-income countries
NGO
non-profit group independent of government that provides aid and support for issues like poverty, health, and education.
Microfinance
Microfinance means giving small loans to poor people or small businesses to help them grow.
