Is part of G20 (accounts for 80% of the worlds wealth and 20 of the world’s largest economies), which gives them a say.

How has India’s GPD increased?
It has gone up from 0.3 trillion dollars in 1990, to 2.1 trillion dollars in 2015.
Why has Indias population grown?
870 million in 1990, to 1.3 billion in 2015. Dead rates have decreased and life expectancy has increased due to better health and education.
What has India’s economic development impacted on the envirnment?
India releases 7% of all green house gasses, urban sprawl leads to water pollution. About 70% of India’s sewage flows untreated into the rivers. High air pollution, causes approx 0.5 million deaths per year.

GPD per capita increased from $1150 to $5800, which is a 3x increase.

Services have increased by almost 20%, agriculture decreased by rougly 15%. Young people in rural areas leave for higher paying jobs located in the city.
How have imports and exports changed in India since 1990?
Imports risen from $40 billion to $450 billion in 2012. Exports have risen to just below $300 billion, so India is losing money.

Services and industry sectors have increased, (services % of GPD risen by 29%, agriculture fallen by over 30%).

Allow less developed areas of India to try and move forwards through the use of intermediate technology,
Positives of the Astra Biogas scheme?
They now cook with gasses produces as a by product of the intermediate technology, better for the environment but also for the families health, women can now stay at home and look after kids/have another job.
What is the maim product of the Astra Biogass scheme.
It costs around $60 to make, produces slurry which hydrates and fertilises soil, making crops grow faster and better.

The aim of this process is to collect rain water from monsoons, but also to create a lot of electricity from hydroelectric power.
Who benefits from the Sadar Savovar Dam?
The people in the cities benefit as they’re provided with 3.5billion litres of water a day, and also electricity in the developed area.
Who loses from the Sadar Sarovar Dam?
Many local villages have been flooded, 320 000 locals had to move out. Very very few rural families (the ones who need help most) actually benefit from the dam. The area of the dam is prone to earthquakes, the dams weight could trigger one. Has also damaged the envirnment.
