History of the Pueblos

The Pueblos were peaceful and lived in New Mexico. In the 1500 hundreds, the Spanish came and forced the Pueblos to work for them. They treated them very badly. The Navajos saw what the Spanish were doing. The Navajos attacked the Spanish to free the Pueblos.

The Pueblos built houses in a rectangular shape and piled them on top of each other like apartment buildings of today. Navajos lived in hogans. They were circular and covered with sticks.

Where do they live?

Navajos and Pueblos moved to Arizona. Today the Navajo reservation is in Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.

Apaches

The Apaches moved from place to place. They fought many battles to remain free. Their last great chief was Geronimo. Most Apaches live now in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona.
