A

He was the leader after the Madhists. Wanted to unite Sudan but threatened the Suez Canal. Italy had previously diverted Abdullah but now Italy had been defeated the Mahdists posed a threat to Egypt.

A

A

Uitlanders flooded the Transvaal after gold was discovered. Transvaal government wanted to build a railway through Portuguese East Africa and also denied Uitlander’s rights.

Subdued and punished rebellious tribe. Tried to get them to police themselves but would use the British Indian Army, and created the North-West Frontier Province.

A

Set up the Congress for middle-class Indians. Viceroy Curzon set up many reforms, such as Universities and the police. Set up a Commerce and Industry department. Adopted gold standard for more stable currency. Founded the Imperial Cadet Corps, rearming Indians.

A

Partition of Bengal 1905-11. Upset the Hindu elite and caused the formation of All India Muslim League. Forced Curzon’s resignation in 1905 and reversed in 1911.

A

Minto created reforms to oppress press, curb public meetings and deport people.
Morley was more appeasing, reformed the political system in the Indian Councils Act 1909.

A

Criticised that Britain wasn’t looking out for Egypt’s best interests. Took shape as a National Party. Denshawai incident showed unequal nature of Britain in Egypt. Brought more Egyptians into the assembly to outweigh nationalists.

A

In Canada and Australia they were used to govern the nations themselves. Royal Niger Company relied on tribes to rule each other. Didn’t have a universal native policy.
