Information Technology Cluster Flashcards
(7 cards)
Information Technology career cluster
The Information Technology career cluster works with all things IT. It holds pathways and careers that relate to the design, development, support, and management of hardware, software, multimedia, and system integration services. Basically, if it has to do with information about technology, it fits in here.
Network Systems Pathway
People in this pathway design, install, maintain, and manage network systems. With a good working network, many different users can log in and work together. For instance, in a hospital, a network can allow doctors to view the same patient’s X-rays in real-time to figure out the next move for treatment.
jobs in the Network Systems Pathway
Examples of jobs and careers that fall in this pathway include information systems operators, network administrators, network engineers, systems administrators, and technical support specialists. People in this pathway can work anywhere there is a network, such as in an office, corporation, factory, school, lab, really anywhere computers are used (which is just about everywhere these days)! Most jobs and careers in this pathway require at least a bachelor’s degree, sometimes higher.
Information Support and Services Pathway
People in this pathway have a very good understanding of computers, technology, and all of their processes. If someone is having trouble connecting to their email, someone in this pathway could step in and help.

Jobs and careers that are in this pathway include call center support representatives, data systems designers, help desk specialists, maintenance technicians, PC support specialists, support engineers, and testing engineers. Just like in the Networking Systems pathway, people in this pathway may work in any location that uses technology and needs IT assistance. People in this pathway typically need a bachelor’s degree or higher to work in this field.
Programming & Software Development Pathway
People in this pathway have lots of knowledge about programming languages and software development. While many large corporations employ programming and software developers, many other types of organizations and businesses do as well. In fact, this pathway includes the people who create the video games we love to play! Are you good with coding and creation? This might just be the career path for you!
