Informative Learning vs Transformative Learning Flashcards
(14 cards)
Informative learning vs Transformative learning
- Informative learning is the traditional learning experience that you’ve been exposed to, it changes what we know.
- Transformative learning refers to learning experiences that cause a fundamental shift in an individual’s perspective it involves behavior change. It changes how we know
The outcome of informative learning
is knowledge. Putting more information on the hard drive acquiring information for the purpose of adding to what we already know.
The outcome of transformative learning
is thinking in radical new ways, power, freedom and breakthroughs that allow you to see the world through a new lens and at the same time open you up to new possibilities never before considered.
What are the three basic steps to transformative learning
- Seeing - Changing your perspective
- Thinking - upgrading your values
- Doing - Creating behavior that is consistent with your new values and perspective.
Transformative learning takes away or reduces the impact of
what’s in the way of you being powerful and effective in the knowledge that you already know.
The field of study for transformative learning is
ontology the study of being.
The Circle of knowledge
- KK what you know that you know
- KDK what you know you don’t know - do you know how to put an engine in a car?
- Both of these exist by virtue of what you already know
- DKDK - what you don’t know you don’t know. your blindspot which accounts for 85% of your unwanted results.
What can you do with DkDk - your blind spot - shadow of limiting beliefs
- Nothing because it’s hidden from your view - you can’t see what you can’t see.
- You’re not aware of it but it is very active in your decisions making, perception of reality, and dictating the results you’re able to create.
Shadow of limiting beliefs
- are powerful limiting beliefs, blocks, resistances, assumptions misconceptions, misinterpretations, hiding on your hard drive
- they determine the outcome or results of how any new software (new ideas, concepts, beliefs, information, possibilities will play out in your life.
Getting more information vs removing blindspots
removing the blocks, blindspots, misconceptions, resistances limiting beliefs stories and assumptions that have caused you to not follow through with the new information or that are getting in the way of you being powerful and effective with the knowledge that you already have is the most effective
The negative impact of blindspots
when something challenges you,
⁃ you can’t see it from a different view
⁃ you can’t see what is needed because your limiting beliefs are blocking you - they won’t allow you to see what doesn’t confirm them.
The positive impact of transformative learning
- expose limiting beliefs assumptions, stories, misconceptions that have an enormous impact on our decision-making/choices and behaviors.
- allows us to reexamine/review/reassess/rethink them, and we reframe/ retell them in a way that give us access to more power and freedom
How is meaning created through dialogue in transformative learning?
- A process where we transfer our habits, attitudes, mindsets, and behaviors to make them more inclusive, open emotionally capable of change, and reflective so that they may generate beliefs and opinions that will prove more true to guide action.
- If we agree that communication is at least partly responsible for the type of world we live in, it would appear that transforming our communication would be one place to start.
- Training people in open, compassionate, and reciprocal communication may have the power to transform the status quo of a deeply troubled planet
Whenever we have a problem, consider we are experiencing a Blind spot. How should we see it?
All resistance points to a deeper truth.
Whenever we have a problem, consider we are experiencing a Blind spot.
We experience Resistance when our Rules (our beliefs) are in conflict with our Results (circumstances, or environment).
