Q

Poor technique

A

Poor biomechanical training and performance technique can lead to injury
e.g. poor tackling technique in rugby or poor lifting technique in gym

Q

Incorrect equipment / clothing / footwear

A

e.g. use of tennis racquet that is too heavy OR cricket helmet does not fit correctly impairing vision

Q

Inappropriate overload without progression / overtraining

A

Training should always consider the principles of training e.g. overuse injuries such as tennis elbow / tendonitis / shin splints when running

Q

Age

A

As age increases the risk of becoming injures increases. Bone tissues lose strength(osteoporosis) and suffer overuse wear and tear

Q

Nutrition

A

Diet with less protein will allow for less repair and growth of tissues and cells as well as collagen formation
Carbs are required for energy and to reduce onset of fatigue which can increase risk on injury when body tired and tissues fatigue

Q

Previous injury

A

Amateur athletes not participate in enough rehab to allow full recovery of tissue. Soft tissue injury often result in muscle wastage and loss of strength within connective tissue

Q

Posture and alignement

A

Different leg lengths
Scoliosis (lateral curve of spine)
Lordosis (inward curve of spine)
Can cause biomechanical changes requiring connective tissue to handle forces in unnatural ways
